ABOUT US

Welcome to Growing Wise Midwifery! Let us introduce ourselves! We are the midwives.

My name is Moriah Wise.

This is a little bit about myself and my choice to become a midwife.
From the time I was about age six, I watched my mom’s homebirth midwife, Brenda Parrish (I literally thought she was an angel), at my mom’s births. Brenda made me in awe of what a wonderful thing these women did.
When I became pregnant, I wanted to have a home birth; however, we had very limited resources in the South Georgia area. I had a C-section with my first, which left me in grief over my lack of options and choices. At this point, I became a doula in order to help support and advocate for women during birth. I went on to have my last 3 VBACs at home with a midwife. That feeling of birthing your baby the way we were meant to, as well as being supported with evidence-based care throughout those 3 pregnancies, was such a healing journey. One that I hope every VBAC mama has the chance to experience. For many years, I was grieved by my experience with prenatal care, labor, and delivery. Now, I know that is what opened my eyes to the need for different options.
During midwifery school, I had some starts and stops between the years of 2015 and 2022. I began going back to midwifery school in 2022, as well as precepting with 3 midwives in Georgia. I finished my studies at a busy birth center in Washington in 2024. As I serve South Georgia, I am excited to serve women and their families with love, support, and education in a way that allows mothers to blossom and their babies to bloom in the beautiful way God intended.

My name is Jackie Shaffer

I am married to my high school sweetheart. I am mom to two boys. We also have our first born, and only girl, in Heaven since she was three days old, and our youngest son, miscarried at 18 weeks, waiting for us in Heaven. I have had two homebirths and two hospital births of my own. Having varying birth experiences. in different settings, with different care provider styles, has given me a unique perspective on all things birth.

I knew when I was just sixteen years old that birth work was what I wanted to do. I was supporting my sister through seventy-two hours of labor with her first child and the experience was life changing!

I have been studying with midwives for years but, started into serious Midwifery schooling in 2022. I have been precepting and training with multiple midwives and traveling to train at one of the busiest Birth Centers in Washington state. I have worked with traditional midwives and certified midwives. I am thankful for each one who has poured their knowledge, wisdoms, and time into my training.

I love what I do and am very passionate that every woman have the experience she dreams of for her birth. There is a specific beauty in women supporting women through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. As a Midwife, my only desire is to see every woman educated, encouraged, supported, and loved throughout this journey into motherhood. Whether it be for the first time or the tenth! (Or twentieth!) Every baby is a blessing that should be celebrated, always. This is not a role to take lightly. Being chosen and invited into a family's pregnancy and birth space is an absolute privilege! It is truly an honor to be able to serve women this way!
